Bryce Canyon National Park is located in southeast Utah not far from Zion National Park. According to the National Park Service "hoodoos (odd-shaped pillars of rock left standing from the forces of erosion) can be found on every continent, but here is the largest collection of hoodoos in the world!" These hoodoos are primarily a brilliant orange and come in the strangest shapes. This park at high altitude and has cool summers and snowy winters.

I first visited Bryce Canyon as a teenager in the 60's with my family. It was one of the parks where I took some of my first pictures, using an old 35mm camera with split-image focusing. I still have some of those slides (there were some pretty good pictures and a lot of awful pictures). Since I returned to this area, I have hiked many of the trails in the park and taken thousands of photographs in all seasons. The trails in this park allow you to get among the hoodoos and provide wonderful photography. Along with the trails there are numerous overlooks that give majestic views of the hoodoos.

Here are some of my best. On one golden morning in January of 2016, I was in the park a few days after a snowstorm and before sunrise, and had one of those magic days when the light was perfect and the colors most brilliant, especially in contrast to the snow and blue skies. Most of these pictures are from that day. I hope you enjoy these photographs.
