Construction of Hell's Backbone Road was completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933. This allowed travel between Escalante and Boulder across Hell's Backbone. The Hell's Backbone Bridge allows travelers to pass over Sand Creek with views of the spectacular Box-Death Hollow Wilderness Area.
